AVOID AVID AVOID - RUN DOWN UNIT, POOR AC, CHEAP OWNER
There are so many bad things about this unit that I don't even know where to start. Let me just say this for readers who don't wish to read through the rest of this scathing review: Avoid the place at all costs - aside from the view, this place is absolutely awful. I've rented numerous homes in Cape may over the years and this crappy, bare bones, cheaply appointed, no frills condo is by far THE WORST. Furthermore, I own a home in another summer town which I rent - so trust me this review is from an experienced renter and landlord. I'll break it down piece by piece so anyone considering this unit will informed: 1) The first issue, the AC is completely inadequate to cool the unit. When we arrived the unit was 76 degrees, which jumped to 78 degrees after we opened the door to the garage in order to unpack our luggage etc. As I'll explain below, the garage bets blasted by the hot AC exhaust. The owner did send an AC tech twice to come out, who told us that because the ducting is inadequate, ( and one of our vents from frozen in the shut position, that all of the units have cooling issues. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms but all they do is move the hot air around. To cool our bedroom to a comfortable 70, we had to drive 1/2 hour up to Rio Grande on our first Saturday to buy a $389 Hisense portable from the Lowe's. Great way to start one's vacation. Also, the exhaust hose from the Portable extended all the way through the bathroom to vent out the window, over the top of the toilet and in front of the sink, making taking a shower or using the sink quite a daunting task. Massive inconvenience we dealt with all week. 2) Poorly maintained - and owner will blame you for the problems! The place is beat up in general, walls are dingy and scratched, the back door keys don't work. Owner blamed us for that. Insane. 3) Bare minimum essentials - the owner is so cheap he provides NOTHING but the bare minimum. No decent wood cutting board, no decent cutting knives, nothing. Not even a paper towel holder. Just the usual cheap pots/pans, plates, glasses. 1 roll of TP for each bathroom, zero cleaning supplies, no paper towels, no Windex, no Dawn. I get it, that's not mandatory, but I've never rented a home that had ZERO. 4) No cleaning service before you arrive - The owner is so cheap, he doesn't hire a cleaning service to clean prior to your arrival - he assumes the previous tenants will clean well enough. How do I know this? When we arrived, the windowsills were filthy, there were numerous dead flies and bugs by the windows, the bathrooms were filthy - the tubs wall coated with soap residue. The windows were filthy - hadn't been cleaned in months. Upstairs, the mattress covers were disgusting with hairs and stains. 5) Cheaply appointed with mismatched, terrible furniture. The furniture is the cheapest paperboard junk you can find - and none of it matches. Literally stuff in the attic from the 1980s. The pictures on the website are somewhat accurate - but don't reveal how crappy and run down the place it is. Not to mention, the owner is so cheap, he provides each bathroom with paper thin, see-thru shower curtain. Literally for $10 on Amazon, you can get far better. Not this cheap owner though. Also, there are NO hangars in the closets, only a few old wire ones if you are lucky enough to have the previous renter leave some. 6) The cheap folding closet doors come off the hinges - yet the owner blamed me for breaking them? Please. 7) Porches over-crowded with furniture and back balcony unusable. The tiny upstairs deck had 4 small tables, and about 8 chairs - so many I had to stack them all up to the side just to sit down. Back porch is unusable because the exhaust from the adjacent condo's AC unit blows very hot air all over you so why bother. 8) Garage isn't 2 cars, unless you have 2 Smart cars or 2 mini Coopers. if you squeeze 2 regular size cars in there you can barely open the doors, and the Grill is in the way 9) Speaking of the BBQ grill - well ok, it has one, but not sure where you can use it unless you want to barbeque on the wet concrete driveway out back. what fun! 10) Keys for the door leading from garage into the unit don't work. When I arrived I had to walk all the way around to the front door into in order to open the door from the garage to the unit from the inside. The assigned keys that you get don't work for the back door. Even Burt, the property manager acknowledged this and gave me the proper set 11) 100+ degree garage due to the neighbors AC exhaust blowing hot air on ti all day. 12) driveway in front of the unit's garage has a constant algae ridden puddle due to the neighbor's AC condensate line dripping gross AC water all over the area in front of the YOUR garage space, Nice ! 13) Forgot to mention, bring blankets and pillows - they provide NO BLANKETS (despite the listing saying they do ) and the pillows on the beds are horrendous = the cheapest flat, springy, fiber filled pieces of junk you can find. 14) the cheap owner also reneged on his promise to offer us some compensation for all of the troubles we had to endure upon arrival and throughout the week. He did, to his credit, send a bunch of cleaning supplies from Wal Mat - but we'd already went out and bot paper towels, TP, Windex etc. After 3 days of negotiations, we finally settled on a price, only to see him back out of the deal accusing us of leaving his place dirty and breaking the closet door hinge - both of which were not true. All told, our entire experience with 1625 Beach B was a nightmare from start to finish. We wasted the first day of our precious 6 days waiting for the AC techs, a proper cleaning lady, Burt the property manager, driving to Rio Grande for the portable AC etc. Day 2 began with another visit from the AC guys, more back and forth with Coastline, etc. For the price we paid, (an extremely stiff $5,500 for the week), there are FAR BETTER 2-3BR condos and small homes to rent in Cape May in the same general vicinity. I will not ever rent this piece of garbage again, and I would strongly admonish anyone else from doing the same - Unless this is the last place left in CM, proceed with caution and now you are informed.
