806 Benton Avenue

My family recently stayed at 806 Benton St (the Steger house) and we loved it. It has a great nostalgic feel to it. The owners have renovated tastefully and left a lot of the original built ins in place. This leads to the very cool, nostalgic feel. The art in the house is quirky and fabulous! This property is very roomy and the layout of the house flows nicely. The furniture is comfortable and relaxed. There was plenty of room for 12 people to spread out during our rainy hurricane Erin days inside. The rooftop deck is not easy for outdoor dining, seeing that all food must be brought upstairs, but for breakfast or lunch it works. We ate dinner mainly in the large dining room with an oversized dining table that was comfortable for my large family of 12. We used the rooftop deck for evening catch up from our busy beach days, evening cocktails and morning coffee. It's so roomy, peaceful and truly relaxing up there. We made use of the unique, arch covered driveway by keeping our golf cart rental sheltered there, and still had room for 2 compact cars. All bathrooms were renovated. They were comfortable and functional. The bedrooms were roomy and well equipped. The mattresses could be updated, but were still comfy. The air conditioning was wonderful and reliable. There were no "too cold" spots or "too warm" spots as in some rentals. The location is perfect. We never had a problem finding off street parking when we needed it. It is just 3 short blocks to the beach and close enough to Washington Square. The laundry room is in a great spot off the kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked. If you need it you'll find it. Nothing was too old or too worn, everything was in great shape. We were able to use the beach chairs and umbrella provided, because Steger beach Service was closed most of the week because of the hurricane. This was extremely helpful. There were also 12 beach tags provided for our use. The outdoor shower was roomy and convenient after coming off the beach. This was our first year renting this property as we grew out of our old rental. I hope we are able to rent here for many years to come.

Have rented 5 different home in Cape May over the years...this one truly stands out as the very best. This historic home has all the charm and accommodations that you look for in a "beach house". Only 3 easy walking blocks from the beach. The house is not your typical "air bnb" with sterile wall art and furnishings....NO this house is the real deal...furnishings that are unique in each room with plenty of seating for a large group. The upstairs bedrooms are generous in size and its "cool" the way you access the Upper Deck...one entrance thru a bedroom and the other thru a bathroom. Sounds strange but you have to see how great this whole second floor and deck is laid out. My family from Germany really loved it! This kitchen comes with everything you need to cook anything you like. By this I mean it has more pots and pans, coffee makes, mixers, kitchen gadgets that most friends I know. House has 2 zone air which is great to balance temps upstairs. Garage has chairs for the beach as well as boogie boards. Outdoor shower is generous in size and private. Original owner was the well-known beach rental company (a "fixture" in Cape May) Steger....house is decorated with his memorabilia. All-in-all well worth the rental fee. And it didn't hurt that that we had 7 days for full sun and the water temp was 75 and the waves were great...great week!

This house is truly lovely, and a fabulous location for both the beach and town/shops/restaurants. 3 block walk to the beach was perfect, and we never had to get in the car to go to the restaurants we wanted. The house is quirky cute, you can see the add-one and upgrades that have been added over the years. Clean and well maintained.The bedrooms are as you see them. Downstairs has an en suite bathroom. Upstairs has two hall baths, one fully upgraded, the other with a tub. Another downstairs bathroom is a bit tight. Upstairs deck was perfect, but access is through one of the bedrooms or one of the bathrooms. A bit odd, but we managed. The deck is where you spend most of your social time. Backyard is tiny, but outside shower is nice.Garage is handy for storing bikes, chairs, etc. A bit of an ant problem in the kitchen was the only negative, but keep your stuff wrapped and all good. I would highly recommend for a family getaway
